LESS than a year after launching a new project in a wooded area near Ilminster, a firm giving children the chance to get outdoors has been nominated for a top rural enterprise award.
ROAM was launched on October’s giving up and has seen near-instantaneous fulfillment with its variety of woodland school classes and fun outdoor sports.
The business changed into the brainchild of Somerset chef Aaron Driver, and he labored with former trainer Richard Akers and retired policeman Tony Crowter to start the venture.

“It is ready to connect with nature, building up their self-belief and self-esteem.
“The acronym stands for Reach Out And Matter.
“Some of our domestic educated youngsters led a cooking session or did domestic-made slime once.
“They are actually that assured to say, ‘Can we try this, and are we able to lead it.'”
As well as developing their supply for adults, the trio plans to construct an outdoor study room to be better organized for the windy climate.
In addition to their regular classes, ROAM has hosted one-off occasions for birthday parties and local businesses.
Tony said: “We have had colleges up here – Manor Court, Winsham, Ashill, and Hatch Beauchamp – and rainbows, tarts, and guides.
“We had South West Karate from Taunton, and they delivered a set of 20 up right here.
“He has had several birthdays up here, and we can do barbecue meals and roasted marshmallows and smores, and children and adults love that.
“We offer many of the woodland college staples, but we also do other matters.”
